How traditional printing inks Done?
Like any other ink, printing inks are made from a mixture of a carrier and pigment. How special ink is manufactured mainly depends on the type of printing process used.
Like writing ink, ink printer should be evenly and completely cover the surface of the media being printed. You should also dry fairly quickly. While many artists have the luxury of letting his lithographs sit and dry, most commercial printers do not have that luxury.
For example, printers that print thousands daily newspapers with large offset machines require ink to be absorbed in the paper. In this way the paper can be cut and bend and even distributed, while the ink still drying. That is also the reason that newsprint often falls on the fingers when you read the newspaper today.
Originally pigment ink printers came from the lamp black background, which is basically soot, along with vegetables and various animal compounds were used to create colors for printers. Today is probably the pigments are dyes or chemicals. However, carbon-black is still favored for manufacturing a black pigment.
The big difference between the traditional recipes of printer ink and ink modern is the company that is used to fix the pigment on paper. classic recipes usually use linseed oil. new recipes using alkyd – resins – and either mineral oil or soybean oil.
Whichever carrier is used, the process has remained more or less same for the past hundred years. The carrier is first heated to between two hundred and six hundred degrees Fahrenheit. After cooking for up to twelve hours. The longer it cooks the thicker it gets.
Lithograph and letterpress inks are paste inks inks or oil and do not need to be cooked longer. Once cooked, thinning solvent is added to the companies for rotogravure and flexographic printing.
While the company is cooking the pigment is prepared. The pigment is ground and dried in a roller mill and in fact uses the same technology nineteenth-century grain mill used.
Then, depending on the printing process the ink is used for the pigment and the carrier are mixed with additives such as lubricants, waxes, drying agents, and surfactants. The concept is to make the ink dries easily thin enough yet thick enough to adequately cover the paper.
At the same time be easily transferred from the Printing Press to the loss of paper while the ink minimum. Ink takes much better, is easier clean up.
Today the printing process can be done at home or office Laser Printer inkjet. printer inks for inkjet printers dries fairly quickly, while getting professional quality results.
